Curtain Wall System
The Curtain Wall is a modern, non-load-bearing façade system mainly used in high-rise buildings such as towers and commercial complexes. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, it provides effective performance against environmental factors like wind, rain, and sunlight. Functioning as a “non-structural skin,” it is attached to the building’s main frame.
In simple terms:
Non-load-bearing means it does not carry the weight of the building; it only transfers its own weight and lateral forces such as wind to the structure.
Aluminum is typically used for the framing, while glass, aluminum panels, or composite materials serve as cladding.
Its primary roles are to enhance aesthetics, allow natural daylight, and provide protection against environmental elements.
In essence, a Curtain Wall is an exterior envelope of the building that does not bear structural loads, but is anchored to the main structure and transfers only its self-weight and environmental loads (such as wind) to the building frame.

Main Components
Mullion: Vertical structural profile (support element).
Transom: Horizontal profile placed between mullions.
Infills (Glass or Panels): Can be made of glass, aluminum, composite, ceramic, and other materials.
Brackets and Connectors: Used for fixing the façade to the main structure.
Insulations and Sealants: Prevent penetration of water, air, and noise, while enhancing thermal and acoustic insulation.

Types of Curtain Wall Systems (by Appearance and Installation)
Face Cap: Features visible aluminum caps on the surface of the glass.
Semi-Structural: Has vertical caps but no horizontal ones (or vice versa).
Full Structural Glass: No caps are visible on the façade, resulting in a fully glazed look.
Spider Glass: Uses point-fixing connectors without traditional framing.
Curtain walls can be installed in three main methods:
Face Cap: Aluminum profiles are clearly visible on the glass (framed appearance).
Frameless: Connected with UV adhesive or spider fittings, creating a seamless all-glass look.
Semi-Frameless: A hybrid of frameless and face cap systems, with minimal visible profiles.
